David George’s new novel, Remember the First Time You Fell in Love? is more than just a novel; it’s eight short stories which, since they turn out to be all about the same man, becomes a novel. It is also an invitation: these stories were collected from after-dinner conversations where people told about their first love – and also, in the process, what love means to them. So it’s also an enquiry: is there one thing we can call “true love” or are there only many different kinds of love? Is one better than the other?
