The Notebook (The Story of My Life)

So I just got done watching The Notebook, one of the happiest, saddest, realest love stories ever invented. The love Noah & Allie share is so genuine, and unconditional. I can’t help but wonder if there’s a love like that that out somewhere for me. I know I’ m young and shouldn’t be rushing into things like eternal love but I can’t help it. I can’t help the fact that every moment of every day I think about that kind of love, the love that I can only even remotely think about sharing with one person. He knows who he is, I think. It’s sad because there are only two men in this whole world that I think I could ever love unconditionally, but they’ve both failed me. One of them is my father. He died when I was eight. I wasn’t even fully aware of everything in life especially not love when he died. They say a fathers love is the strongest love, but what happens if you never experience that? Well I guess that’s why people find someone to love and spend the rest of their life with, as a spouse. The second failed love is, my, well everything. Or at least he used to be. We’ve known each other for about 5 years, but it feels like I’ve known him forever. When we started going out, I was the happiest I think I’ve ever been in my life. But somewhere along the road we lost our way, and my heart got broken. I don’t even know how it happened or how it went wrong but it did. I thought I could find my way back to him but it’s hard when the person isn’t trying to find their way back to you. Sometimes I just wonder if love even really exists. I mean of course it does but why is it so hard to come across? Why do people have to go through so much pain to get the love they want, need, and deserve? I know God is supposed to be our everything, and we are supposed to find everything in him, including love. But sometimes that’s not enough, it’s hard to feel the love when no one is right there standing beside you, touching you, talking to you, listening to you, if you can’t see them, how do you know they’re there? I believe in God and that he is omnipresent and is around me at all times but sometimes my flesh needs the earthly love of a man. So what are those of us with no love supposed to do? Do we just live life knowing there isn’t any love for us? Do we pretend to feel loved but deep inside all we feel is pain and abandonment? Or do we just keep fighting for the love we know is out there but may take a lifetime to find?

For privacy reasons, I am going to use fake names. My current girlfriend’s name will be babe and the mutual friend will be angel

After being dumped by my ex girlfriend who said “You are too nice of a guy”, I was heartbroken and hopeless. Months have passed and I was out of control meaning partying nonstop and trying to get the relationship off my mind. On memorial weekend 2012, I went to Las Vegas where I met the love of my life through a mutual friend. I met babe in Las Vegas of all places. At first, we were just friends and didn’t know a thing about each other.

As a month passed by, I met babe again in Vegas through our mutual guy friend angel. It was EDC weekend and us 3 partied with a bigger group of friends. Babe and I talked but never had feelings for one another even though I thought she was attractive however she thought I was too young for her. We all had a blast EDC weekend and I ended up getting her number then and contacted her through text messaging.

During the summer, I traveled to Thailand with family. Babe and I texted nearly everyday during the month I was overseas. At this point, I was cautious of liking any woman or being in a relationship. We both kept or relationship on a friendly level.

When I came back from my trip, I needed to catch up with her in person, so I drove almost an hour away just to see her since she lives far. During the time babe and I tried to get to know each other I always went back to talk to my friend angel about how she felt about me since she thought I was too young. Angel told me “don’t give up” and I will never forget he always gave me confidence and strength to keep on talking to babe.

As babe and I went on our second day out, she gave me a kiss right after I dropped her off at her house. That kiss made me feel that inner connection between us that I have never felt before. Right then and there, I knew this was something special. Not too long after, we told our friend Angel we are officially dating!

A few nights later, Angel, a group of friends, and I went to a concert in LA. Angel was happy for babe and I. Angel said he knew I was a great guy for her and babe was a great woman for me. I couldn’t thank Angel enough for bringing babe and I together.

About a few days after babe and I were dating, Angel, Babe, a few friends of ours, and I were enjoying ourselves with a night of clubbing. That would be the last night babe and I would ever see Angel again.

Two nights later, Angel died in a DUI car accident. Babe and I couldn’t believe it. Angel was one of Babe’s best friends and he was one of my more trusted and beloved friends.

Suffering through so much grief, Babe and I tried to pull ourselves to together and stay strong. We believe Angel brought us together for a reason. Before Babe and I knew each other, Angel knew we were both hopeless romantics perfect for one another.

Till this day, we call Angel our “Cupid” and “Angel” watching over us as Babe and my relationship has bloomed so quickly and grown so deeply in love with one another. Angel was our savior. Babe and I wished that only if he was here to see our relationship grow as great as it has been even with him still here. We can’t thank him enough.

I met my husband through facebook, when i was just 15 years old and he was 18 years old. We were both seperated by the ocean yet together in heart. He asked me out on facebook and we went out on facebook not knowing anything about each other. As time passed, we both fell in deep love and got to a stage where i decided that i can’t live without him. We were desparate to meet each other. I went to meet him in the holidays when i was in year 10. And the year after he managed to come and live in the same country as me. After my year 12 results came out, i told my parents that i was in love with him and they asked to meet him. When i told them that he was from the same place as my parents, they were very happy and agreed for our wedding. Yes it was all really fast. I got married to him when i was 20 years old and now am living happilly with him abd my two children. Like all couples, we also had fights and a few misunderstanding but at the end of each argument, we would think about it laugh. It still remains a sweet memory and i still love him the same way.

Almost Love

Liza always kept a pen on her.

She was always jotting down notes, quotes and potential story ideas. Her phone was always ringing, a mixture of calls from debt collectors and well-to-do government officials. She had a pretty stable relationship with the local newspaper covering Queens’s government stories. Always in town meetings and in the city hall office, Liza was making a decent living as a freelance journalist. It had been her dream for many years— since she used to chase the chickens on her family’s South Carolina farm.

Liza was naïve, but she always knew that Charleston never had much for her, since she moved there at the age of 8, she developed an extreme disgust for the town.

When Bertha, a category 5 hurricane came through and wiped roofs clean off, knocked out power lines, uprooted trees and dissected her high school, she wished Bertha would have took it all. Charleston was a figment of her imagination – nothing ever seemed real there. Her friends didn’t seem that way, they’d always make jealous remarks about her family’s wealth or the nerds she had classes with. And those who mattered died. Senior year was particularly hard, as she had to attend three of her friend’s funerals; Kevin’s head was rolled over by a trailer after he fell out the bed of a speeding truck. Felicia was stabbed in a fight, and died of complications resulting from her asthma. Kemal committed suicide after he received his SAT results. His note said, “I’ll never amount to anything.”

Charleston was a beautiful residential area with great schools, but it always represented sad memories to Liza. She had become numb to the world living there. She would walk down the streets and see nothing but snakes and lizards, and realize that she forgot how to connect with real people. She longed for the big buildings and lights that she saw on the television screen. To her, New York was where all dreams came true. She envisioned that at the sound of her southern accent, a man would sweep her off her feet as soon as she landed at John F. Kennedy airport. He’d propose and they’d get married and have cornbread instead of cake, and go on a honeymoon to Maui. Then they would get a beautiful apartment on 74th street across from Central Park and play tennis and eat at the Boatyard restaurant in the summers and hold hands while ice-skating in the winter.

The polyphonic ring of her phone brought Liza back from dream world. She tended to doze off while she was riding the train, she didn’t like eye contact with any of the creeps. One time she made eye contact with a guy who referred to himself as Michael the Prophet. He looked into her eyes and saw her future. He saw an alcoholic husband, three kids, lots of credit card debt and a miss America crown. It was sad, and one part frightfully accurate. She vowed to never make eye contact again.

She answered.

“Hello,” she said, with a hint of southern charm.

“Heeeeyyyy,” a man on the other end of the line excitedly said. “I didn’t think you’d pick up.”

She was used to two voices on that line, the bureaucratic monotone voice of government officials or the spritely voice of her fiancé, James. She had memorized all the debt collectors’ numbers and purposely did not answer.

Liza played along.

“How are you?,” she asked.

“It’s so good to hear your voice. It’s been forever, how have you been?”

Liza was beginning to feel a familiar tingle in her heart. She pulled the phone away from her ear and looked at the number in an attempt to see if she mistakenly answered a bill collector’s call. She replayed the numbers in her head, six-one-seven; she didn’t recognize the area code.

“I’m really well, working a lot, but not getting paid enough. You know the deal.” It was a generically safe answer, she thought even if it was a bill collector.

“I’ll give you a hint. I used to have a big crush on you back in the day.”

Liza blushed at the thought of some age-old crush stalking her. She was very private and almost untraceable on Facebook and other social networks. The only unsolicited form of communication she received was spam, and bill collectors – but they were human spam anyways.

His voice was starting to sound really familiar. She paused for a few seconds, looked up at the top of the train and grabbed her bottom lip firmly. Who could it be? Her and James had been together for the past seven years, so it would have to be someone from her past. She’d only been in New York ten years.

All of sudden she put a face to the mystery voice.

“Tony!” She screams, before he even confirmed. “Oh my gosh! How are you??! Where are you? Tell me everything.”

She was just as dramatic as he had left her 15 years ago, when he almost made love to her as a young kid. He lived down the street from her farm and they’d always spent their nights together to make Charleston seem less dull. When he was 9, him, his brother and their mother moved to Charleston from Boston. Fifteen years ago, when she was 16, he told her he loved her. Liza would never forgive herself for backing down and not being brave enough to give her heart to him. He was planning to leave on plane back to Boston and never come back; he hated Charleston like they all did. She couldn’t blame him, although she was hurt that he wouldn’t stay for her. Still they fell deeply in teenage love, sneaking out to smoke weed underneath the banana tree or spending the days on islands only accessible by jet-skis. Although Tony was recently married, he always thought of Liza as the one who got away, telling all his old girlfriends about her and reminiscing on his teenage years in sunny, desolate Charleston.

“I’m in town for the weekend, your brother gave me your number. I just wanted to know how you were, maybe we could get a coffee or a bite to eat,” he said.

From the conversation, Liza gathered that Tony still lives in Boston and works for a political office, they have a conference in New York once a year. He just found out that Liza lived in New York when he went down to Charleston to see his mother for Thanksgiving. Liza had spent Thanksgiving with James.

A few hours later, Liza and Tony met up at this little place in Greenwich Village where you could get wings the size of chicken legs. They laughed, talked about their relationships, their families, etc. It was a good time.

The sun was still up, all her deadlines were in the past and James was out of town, so she respectfully accepted when Tony invited her to go bowling, like the good old days.

James job requires him to travel a lot, he’s a retail salesman for Giorgio Armani and he has to go to fashion shows all over the country for their respective fashion weeks. That’s why James is always dressed in the nicest suits and knows the exact purses to get Liza.

Tony won, as usual. He was always surprisingly good with a bowling ball. The way he tippy-toed up to the line and precisely laid the ball down to slow but steady pace. Twenty seconds later all that could be seen was the dark abyss of the mystery behind the lane and the resonating crack of a strike. At this point, Liza was debating why she even came to the alley; she was loosing so miserably 63 points to 214. Tony would slightly rub it in her face and ask if she wanted to put the kiddy gutters up. “No,” she said with a pouted face, which Tony noticed hadn’t changed in 15 years.

The polyphonic ring again. “Hello,” she said.

“Hey honey, I landed. I’m in Milan. I went straight to the set, they changed the fashion show time… and I’m still waiting on luggage with the remaining suits, we’ve only got two here.”

Liza listened until he took a breath to ask how she was doing. “I’m well,” she said. “I’m out bowling with an old friend. I’m loosing pretty badly,” she giggled. He wished her a good time and good luck on the game.

Liza and Tony had got tired of bowling and Tony decided to give Liza a tour of his suite at the Gansevoort hotel. The Gansevoort was particularly special hotel, and Tony believed Liza would enjoy the twists and turns of the staircases and the modern decor. They toured the pool, Jacuzzi, fitness room, spa area before going up to see the view from his Penthouse.

Liza lived in New York, but Queens didn’t have views like this. She ran to the window as soon as he opened the hotel door. The glass encompassed the whole back wall, and the city lights were as potent as ever—like lifelike fireflies. She lost her breath for a second at the sight of it all. The sun was setting and the sky was a special tinge of orange, pink and purple.

Tony came behind her, admiring her small frame, long black hair with red streaks that glistened in the sun and round buttocks from a far. He came behind her and whispered “Beautiful.” Liza startled at the warmth of his breath on her neck, and clumsily turned around so they were face to face. “Yes, I’m not used to this,” she said. Tony took one step closer to her, staring into her big hazel eyes. She hadn’t blinked for some time, and her eyes were beginning to water. Liza turned back around to admire the scenery, scared what she might do if their eyes remained locked for a second longer.

She put her head down. She wasn’t sure which body part to operate with, her head or her heart, She felt one thing, but knew she should do another. “Thank you for showing me this,” she said coldly.

When she looked up, two hands were pressed firmly against the glass on either side of her ears. She was a little frightened, but the experience felt so familiar. She missed the smell, she ran her hands through his curly tuft of hair, closed her eyes and took a deep breath, her heart racing yet calm at the same time.

Tony kissed her softly on the neck.

He said, “Please stop me.”

But she couldn’t bear to. His hands felt like they belonged on her hips, which they were now resting. She grabbed his large hand and gave it a firm tug, to let him know that she wanted more.

He moved her hair to the side and he rhythmically began kissing her neck watching the sun set over the city before them. Tony turned Liza around and their lips met. Both felt like they had traveled into a time machine where they were two 16 year old sneaking out of their parent’s house to kiss by the lake.

Tony kissed her like he had dreamed. He picked her up and forced her back against the glass window. She winced, and felt her body grow warm inside. The kisses transformed from slow and endearing to fast and sloppy. Soon Liza was gripping his toned biceps for support against the window, her nails feeling his flesh. He pinned her to the window with his chest and groin and proceeded to take off her dress and then his shirt. His body warmth felt so good, and the smell… she took another deep breath of his essence.

She threw her head back in pleasure. She was enjoying it he thought, as he felt her wetness on his chest. He wanted to give her what she had been missed as a teenager, but a knock came at the door. It was his Democrat buddy seeing if he wanted to watch the US Open with him. Tony not-so-respectfully declined with a loud yell through the door. With that he twirled Liza around off the window and put her bare body down on the bleach white sheets. He crawled on top of her, kissing her face, neck and collarbone, his surly back the only thing to be seen from above.

The phone rang. The ring was familiar— it was James. She reached over Tony’s toned body with her left hand, the six-carat ring caught a twinkle from the sun’s final descent and she immediately began to think with her brain.

You know those moments, when you see a person and you just REALLY wont to know them? That’s how I met Jeffrey. It was senior year and I was on a bus on my way home when I looked a few seats back and saw him. I had seen Jeffrey multiple times before this but I had never been given the chance to talk to him one on one. Here was my chance, we were the last two on the bus and he moved up acrossed the isle from me, so I just started talking to him about simple things, nothing really, until we came to his stop. The next few days at school I made it a point to talk to him whether that be just a passing hello or a joke in band class. We started to meet up at extra-caricular events like volleyball games and sit and talk. He was suprisingly easy to talk to but was in general a very quiet person and I am not. However, he didn’t seem to mind my company so we continued to hang out every once and awhile. During one game we were talking and he told me that I liked alot of the same thigs his sister did and that he would bring her to the next game so I could meet her. And when I did meet her we became best friends immediatly, and she still to this day is my very best friend. Kayla, Jeffrey and I started to hang out all the time, going out at night and walks on Sunday evenings. Kayla and I’s relationship grew fast but so did Jeffrey’s and I. He and I would talk everyday before school and we told eachother everything, we both had similar struggles and burdens we had to bare. Time went by and we all remaind close up to the day that Jeffrey and Kayla’s father committ suicide. That whole week I never left their side, especially Jeffrey’s, who took the death personally. Jeffrey has a history of strong depression and I was terrified he would follow in his father’s footsteps. As it turned out Jeffrey had planned to take the same action his dad did and just leave it all behind. I was so scared and was frantically trying to do everything I could to reasure him that he needed to be strong and that things would eventually be okay and also that I was there for him, no matter what. I had at one point in my life struggled with the same type of thing so I knew how to relate to the situation. But there was a new develpment,I was falling in love with him and was scared to death to tell him. What if it made things awkward? What if he didn’t feel the same? But, what if he did? Regardless I just wanted to see him smile again. Time whent by and Jeffrey started doing okay again, he was more of himself until one night after we got home from youth group. He wouldn’t speak and wouldn’t even aknowladge me in any way. His sister and I had a habit of laying out on the trampoline at night and looking at the stars, this night i begged and pleaded for him to join us, not wanting to leave him alone. So, I dragged him onto the trampoline, and well, he didn’t really like but he just normally did what I said anyway. Laying there we were watching videos on kayla’s Ipod and laughing, and Jeffrey finaly started to loosen up. He began to talk and laugh like he usually did, but something was still different. He kept looking at me and keeping eye contact and smiling and hugging me. I was used to him touching me, he usually had his head on my shoulder or was sitting close. I didn’t mind at all because he wasn’t ever weird about it, just sweet. But, like I said this was different. Later that night when it got too cold for comfort we headed inside to Kayla’s room to watch a movie and Jeffrey joined us. We all spread out on her bed infont of the screen and watched, but I wasn’t watching at all. I was thinking of Jeffrey and the way he had held me on the trampoline, the way he had looked into my eyes. I needed to know, I needed to know if he felt the same. As it grew later Kayla fell asleep leaving me to ask him if he was going to be okay and if he wanted to talk about what was wrong. He and I usually were always open and honest with eachother and our feelings, we understood eachother and could just talk. He told me that he would be okay and then pulled me close and thanked me for always being there for him and then hugged me again, but this time he didn’t let go. My heart was racing, he was holding me so close to him as he told me that he loved me. I told him I loved him too, and this wasn’t unusual, the words anyway, all three of us always told eachother that we loved eachother. But he and I knew this time we meant something different. I am not sure how many times we told eachother those three words that night and for how long we just held eachother close, but it seemed like forever, but that was fine with me, I didn’t want it to end. And then he kissed me, it was so soft and sweet and gentel. I kissed him back and we both just layed there for the rest of the night talking about how we’ve actually liked eachother for a long time, and how we wished we would have known sooner. The next morning when we all woke up me and him knew things would never be the same again, but in a wonderful way. He and I are still together six months later and we plan to stay together forever. I love him and he loves me. We can talk about everything and anything and love eachother’s imperfections. Yes, there are times we argue, but who doesn’t? But we both know it would be worse to live life without the other. Unfortunatley due to a circumstance we have not seen eachother for three months, and it feels like forever. But we talk everyday and know that the other will remain faithful. We trust eachother and we know that our future is worth waiting for. Because, true love waits.
